This is our talent show. This is our class.
8 April 2015 marks a milestone for our HC Class 2017 – our sparkling Talent Show. For this one and only one talent show, we produce a musical about a girl that chases her dream despite all difficulties. This is a very encouraging and inspiring story, and we hope that this musical can bring the message “Don’t let your dreams fly away.” to the audience and also to ourselves. I myself am deeply moved by the musical. There are times that I struggle and have the thoughts to come to terms with the world and give up my dreams. But after this HC production, through the storyline and seeing the class putting so much effort to create this musical of dream, I am now more confident and have faith in myself.
This musical is very successful. The show went smoothly and the audience enjoyed the musical’s drama, singing, dancing, and the atmosphere. As one of the talent show committees and a member of the HC class 2017, I am grateful for having the opportunity to work with every one of the class, to strive together and to achieve this great mission. We build everything from nothing, and I feel a sense of accomplishment and I am proud of us. There are too many people that need to be praised. Thank you, the talent show committees, especially Licca, Vivian and Tammy, for your devotion in the whole preparation process of the show. Thank you, all actors and actresses of the musical, especially the girls’ team Amazing 7, for your sacrifices in time and effort for practicing so many songs and dances, and for perfect performance on the day. Thank you, all backstage helpers, control room helpers, and all the people that gave a hand in the preparation process, for the effort in helping to make the musical running smoothly, you are the heroes behind the stage.
As a talent show committee in charge of props and backstage, I admit that I am imperfect and have room for improvement, but I have given as much as I could have. The most challenging prop for this musical is a big box for the performers to sit and stand on it. My props team spent a long time to discuss how we could make a beautiful and safe box, and we finally decided to use wood to make this box. On 6th April morning, Louis Hong, Christy Kuan and I went to the wood shop to buy the wood that we needed, and with great effort and the generous help of Ada, Fiona Ip and Henry, we successfully brought the wood and other materials needed to UMAC. Then, we three stayed in one of the college and made the box (the security guide was very nice to let us make the wooden box in a room with air conditioning and tolerated the noise of hammering). Also, give thanks to Louis Chan and other boys that helped in props. This wooden box was just like our son.
Moreover, I am grateful for having very helpful and responsible backstage helpers. Thank you for trusting and following me in the whole process of allocating the time and people responsible for moving props, calling performers and contacting the control room for adjustments of equipment etc. Sometimes I got a bit too strict, but they tolerated me continued to be cooperative. I want to give my deepest gratitude for all backstage helpers and hug them tight. We also had so much fun at the backstage watching the Skype showing the real time front stage performances.

This is our Talent Show; this is our class. We are all in this together. We are not classmates; we are a family. I am lucky to have you all and I wish I can create more and more memories with you.
